You Are Not Behind
Whew. If I had a dollar for every time I whispered to myself, “I should be further along by now…” — I’d probably have a coffee fund for the rest of the year.
It’s easy to feel like you’re playing catch-up in life, especially when your story hasn’t gone the way you thought it would. Maybe you’ve walked through loss. Maybe life detoured in ways you didn’t expect. Or maybe, like me, you found Jesus later than most around you — and now you’re trying to soak in the Bible, grow in faith, and figure it all out while still healing.
And then you look around, and it seems like everyone else has it all together. They’re quoting Scripture without flipping pages. They’re leading, teaching, thriving in their purpose. And there you are… just trying to understand Isaiah without Googling every other verse.
But here’s what God keeps reminding me:
His timing is not like ours.
“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness…”
— 2 Peter 3:9
If you know me, then you know that “Trust God’s Timing” has become my moto. I am a very impatient person, and it’s hard for me to slow down, much less stop. Selling our boutique has been the best decision for me for this year so far because the freedom of time has given me more time to to invest in my relationship with Jesus. And I know that God has our timeline already mapped out for us.
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again just in case you missed it: I truly believe that God has used mine and my husband’s pain to steer us down the path that He has laid out for us. A path that I believe God meant for us to use as a testimony and to help guide and reassure others. We’re not walking this path alone. We are right on time for our story.
We are not behind. We are not too late. We are not falling short, even if we feel like we are. We might feel missing pieces in our lives, but trust that God will put them into place right when we need them the most.
See, I used to look at my life — especially after loss, after heartache — and think, “I’ve wasted too much time.” Maybe I should have started trying to grow our family sooner. Maybe if we had started sooner, things would have gone better.
But God doesn’t see wasted time. He sees a daughter He’s been gently drawing closer every single step. He sees someone whose healing has made space for deeper hope. He sees you and me — and He’s not rushing us.
So if you're learning the Bible for the first time, taking baby steps in faith, or trying to build something new after walking through hard things… breathe.
God’s not disappointed in your pace. He’s walking with you. And He’s not in a hurry to do something quick — He’s doing something lasting.
You’re not behind, friend. You’re becoming.
And that’s right where He wants us.
